The word itself is unpleasant but the meaning behind it is good. A ‘Staycation‘ is the latest buzz word doing the rounds. Basically it means ‘having a holiday at home’.
As the credit crunch continues to grip the country more and more, people are choosing to holiday at home and stay in the UK.
If Norfolk is anything to go buy then this is definitely the case. It was great to see many happy holiday makers enjoying the Morston Marshes when we were their last Friday.
There were many boats on the Norfolk broads at Coltishall today enjoying the Norfolk sunshine.
Reports are also coming at that local business are also benefiting from the Staycation craze.
Off to Felbrigg Hall tomorrow are a walk round the lake. See you there.
Today we made a special trip to the North Norfolk village of Salthouse. Our mission was to acquire that delight of summer coastal crops, samphire.
Our luck was in. The samphire season is all systems go and you only have to drive 5 seconds in to Salthouse until you are presented with 3 different roadside traders selling to delicious salty treat.
For those of you who have not tried it, samphire is like a cross between seaweed and asparagus. Its soft and green and when steamed or boiled for a couple of minuets tastes wonderful just on it’s own.
Thousands of people once again flocked to the show ground to enjoy the annual Norfolk agricultural show.
This years highlights included the worlds biggest combine, the human cannon ball and a giant tortoise among a host of amazing and spectacular sights.
All the animals looked splendid if not a little hot. Some owners resorted to electric fans to keep their cows cool.
The pimms and Woodfordes Wherry flowed well and the hog roast was as tasty as always.
The BBC were there in full force with BBC Radio Royal Norfolk Show broadcasting live form the show ground, a special studio set that played home to Julie Reineger and Cbeebies Jelly from the Green Balloon club.
If you were at the Norfolk Show 2009 let us know your highlights.
Well the weather is hotting up in Norfolk this June so a quick whizz on the old bikes round the grounds of Blickling Hall seemed like a good idea this morning.
Cycling is great for keeping cool as long as you keep moving and the miles of woodland cycle track at Blickling keep you well in the shade.
Today was very pleasant. The advantage of cycling round the grounds is that you can soon pass all the walkers and reach the more calmer parts. We found a lovely shaded, spot deep in the woods, for our well earned pic-nic and refreshments.
I’d recommend it to anyone thinking of a gentle bike trip. Do let me know your favourite cycling spots in Norfolk.
