Samphire from Salthouse

Today we made a special trip to the North Norfolk village of Salthouse. Our mission was to acquire that delight of summer coastal crops, samphire.

Our luck was in. The samphire season is all systems go and you only have to drive 5 seconds in to Salthouse until you are presented with 3 different roadside traders selling to delicious salty treat.

For those of you who have not tried it, samphire is like a cross between seaweed and asparagus. Its soft and green and when steamed or boiled for a couple of minuets tastes wonderful just on it’s own.

A true Norfolk treat.
