Author: Holt – Norfolk is a rural town that sits nestled amid heavily wooded parkland. Known for its fine representations of Georgian architecture, this picturesque town marks the southwestern terminus for The Poppy Line on the historic North Norfolk Railway line.
The town is mentioned in the great survey conducted in 1086 but a significant event occurred on the first of May in 1708 when it was destroyed by a devastating fire. The medieval buildings were almost completely wiped out and it was during the reconstruction when the majority of the Georgian structures were erected.
No visit to Holt is complete without stopping by Byfords. This luxury bed and breakfast also operates a popular deli. The building is believed to be among one of the earliest built and it actually predates the fire of 1708. This is a prime place for those who love to people watch.
